My Charter Fishing Boat

The 1977 22.2 Aquasport's life was almost over in 2005 when Capt. Rick found her on theAquasport flats of the Gulf being used for recreational scalloping. The transom and deck were rotten beyond repair and the original 130 HP Johnson had seen her best days. Capt. Rick was in need of a boat that would carry more customers and did extensive research looking for the right boat for his type of backcountry and nearshore fishing. Most of the hulls he found were a knock-off of the Aquasport 22.2. One company even started their boat company by adding an additional two feet to the back of the 22.2, that company went on to become known as Proline Boats. Gause, Sheaffer, Sabalo and many others copied the design as well. When new the hull was advertised to draft nine inches without power making it perfect for the back water fishing.
The boat was gutted and stringers reattached and reinforced. All wood was removed and everything inside the boat was replaced or rebuilt with high density foam board. The hatches , tubs and receivers were purchsed from Young Boats in Inglis, Fl. All compartments are equipped with overboard drains and LED lighting. Young Boats offered helpful advice throughout the build and sprayed the beautiful gelcoat and non-skid. The fuel tank was replaced with a new forty-eight gallon alumium tank. A twenty-two gallon fresh water tank was mounted under the deck allowing for fresh or salt water washdown/shower.
Capt. Rick enclosed the transom adding room for rigging and giving more useable space inside the boat while increasing safety. The motor is 175HP Suzuki four-stroke mounted on a Porta Bracket lift. The bracket sets the motor back in clean water twenty-one inches and gives fifteen inches of verticle lift, allowing the Captain the option of moving across flats twelve inches deep when loaded with passengers.
Osprey Guide Service specializes in giant Tarpon on fly so the front seat was designed to be removable and all hardware flush mounted making the boat very fly fishing friendly.
The auto-pilot/remote control trolling motor and eight foot power pole, shallow water anchor, make this bay boat perfect for stalking large fish in shallow water. The T-top is a nice feature giving some much needed shade in the hot Summer heat. The console has a sunken floor allowing room for a porta-potty when nature calls. The rebuild took two years and was finished in October, 2007. All for your fishing pleasure.
